One of the hardest things for anyone to understand is their prescription coverage. There are a lot of rules and issues that come up when talking about the benefits of prescription coverage. You might be wondering what to expect and what everything means. Here’s a good primer to make sure you follow just what your prescription company is trying to do.

First there is such a thing as prior authorization. You will see this a lot if you are an adult who is attempting to get acne medication. It’s a difficult process and one that will likely cause you a real hassle. The way that this works is your doctor has to call the insurance company and tell them why you have to have that medication. He’ll give them a diagnosis code. Then they will take the information and review it. If it appears that you have followed all the proper criteria then you will likely be approved for them.

Not all prescriptions are under either the generic or brand headings. Just because something is a brand drug doesn’t mean you are going to pay the brand pricing. You may end up paying far more than you thought. The reason for this is because there are drugs that are so expensive, with similar therapies out there, that you would have to pay a percentage of the cash price for it.

These are two rules that will help you to understand your insurance better. Always makes sure to talk it over with your insurance company if you have any further questions.

Most PPO’s have a difference between in network and out of network policies. The difference can save you hundreds, or thousands, on your medical costs. Not sure which one is which? Simply call your insurance company and let them know the hospital that you would like to go to, or the doctor that you are planning on seeing and they will tell you in which class it qualifies. This is especially important if you are planning on seeing a specialist. Many times a specialist can be expensive and it is necessary that you find out how much it will cost you to pay them a visit.

Know what your out of pocket limit is. This is the max amount of money that you would have to pay for the cost of your insurance coverage in a year. Most people don’t meet their out of pocket limit but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know it. Occasionally you get bill that is for a rather large amount of money. When that happens you should know what you total financial responsibility is for. If you can figure that out you’ll be better off for it.

Insurance is tricky but these tips will help make it less confusing and less expensive. Start your investigation today.

Getting Low Costing Health Insurance

America's Health Insurance Plans

Getting health insurance is the most important thing for you and your family. If you own your own business than the cost of this insurance is probably got you very concerned. The best thing you can do is get yourself into a situation where it’s affordable but helpful to you. If you try and cut too many corners you are going to find yourself in a situation where you have saved money up front but it has cost you more than a few dollars in the long run.

First you want to try to get in as part of a union or a group. A lot of times these big unions or organizations have insurance companies that they have gotten group rates with or found real good coverage rates for. Using them could be the foot you get in the door for affordable rates.

The next thing to do is get a PPO. Now, if you are in business for yourself you’ll find that PPO’s are about the only thing you can get but that’s just fine. If you have a family that is not often sick than PPO’s are great because the monthly premium is lower than you would get with an HMO.

Do not be silly with your insurance deductible. Get something that you can afford because the deductible will come right off the top and if you can’t afford a high deductible(which will lower your monthly rates) then pass on it. Don’t be foolish with your health insurance. You need it as much as you need anything.
